In 1977 Congress amended the Clean Air act to include provisions to protect vistas in certain Class I federal areas. In 1979 the Environmental Protection Agency, in consultation with the Secretary of the Interior, promulgated a list of 156 mandatory Class I federal areas. Eight mandatory Class I federal areas are located in Washington. This abbreviated version of NDMPL is for five wilderness areas and three national parks and is used as boundaries for Class-1 Air pollution control areas by the Washington State Dept. of Ecology Air Program. |
