Origin year is calculated from multiple data sources using the following logic: Origin year is reported at the pixel-level (1/10th ac scale). The default value is the predicted origin year, based on RS-FRIS models. These models rely on remotedly sensed data (LiDAR and DAP) and are constructed primarily from height-to-age relationships. The default RS-FRIS predicted ages are overwritten using the following data, if avaialable: Tree core data from DNR's historic inventory (FRIS) is used for stands whose origin year is 1900 or earlier. FRIS tree core data from younger stands (post-1900) or FRIS data based on stratified samples is used only if RS-FRIS data is not available. Information from LRM for completed harvests (VRH, CLEAR_CUT, SEEDTREE_INT, SEEDTREE_REM, SHELTER_INT, SHELTER_REM) and completed planting (REGEN) activities was used if available. For variable retention harvests, clear cuts, intial seedtree and shelterwood entries, and regen plantings, STAND_ORIGIN_DT was used if populated, otherwise FMA_DT. For seedtree removals and shelterwood removals, STAND_ORIGIN_DT was used if populated. Activities completed prior to the acquisition of the remotely sensed data (i.e., if the activity is visible in the imagery) used RS-FRIS predicted ages for leave tree clumps and LRM data the regeneration cohort. Activities completed after acquistion of the remotely sensed data (i.e., activity not visible in the imagery) used LRM data for the entire stand.

Data sources are mapped in the "Combined Origin Year Data Source" raster.

This data set is periodically updated.
