Service Description: This service contains a compilation of simplified volcano hazard areas by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) for the five stratovolcanoes in Washington State. These polygon data identify volcano hazards zonation and hazard types resulting from different volcano phenomena (alteration, blast, debris avalanche, lahar, surges, and regional lava flows).
The purpose of this compilation is to provide information on volcanic hazards in Washington State.
This dataset was generated by digitizing the volcanic hazard areas from simplified volcanic hazard maps by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) for the five volcanoes in Washington State, found at http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/vsc/multimedia/cvo_hazards_maps_gallery.html. These maps include Mount Adams, Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, and Mount St. Helens. Definitions and guidance for steps to take during a volcano emergency were obtained from the U.S. Geological Survey website on volcano eruption preparedness at: https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/vhp/during_eruption.html
